This page lets you know where you can exercise your dog without a lead. But remember, in any other public place your dog must be kept on a leash at all times.
There are certain places you can not take your dog the main ones being the business areas of Pukekohe, Tuakau and Waiuku during business hours. If you want to know other prohibited areas read the Dog Control Bylaw 2004.
Dog Exercise Areas
If your dog has been classified 'Dangerous' you may not take it off the leash at these exercise areas.
Pukekohe
- Rooseville Reserve, Totara Avenue and Ngahere Road, excluding the fenced grazed area.
- Hickeys Reserve, from Paerata Road to Childs Avenue.
- Cape Hill Reserve, Brownlee Place , excluding the fenced grazed area.
- The catchment Reserve between Jackson Place and Ward Street.
Waiuku
- Reserve area along estuary access from Edgewater Parade and Riverside Drive.
- Esplanade Reserve from Huia Street to Totara Street, with access from Rata Street.
Tuakau
- Les Batkin Reserve, in the marked area - extreme boundary nearest Tuakau sands depot.
- Centennial Reserve/Park, in the marked area.
- Alexandra Redoubt Reserve.
Beaches and Bays
- Kariotahi Beach, south of a line extending east/west from the southern wall of the Karioitahi Surf Lifesaving Clubrooms and north of a line extending east/west from the northern wall of the Public Toilet Block facility.
- Orua Bay, from the Orua Bay creek to Mako Point.
- Clarks Beach, from the last house on Crispe Road to Camp Morley.
- Sunset Beach, Port Waikato, beyond 250 metres north or south of any lifesaving patrolled area.
Other
- Patumahoe Recreation Reserve, Clive Howe Road, Patumahoe, in the signposted area at the north/western corner.
- East Coast Road Reserves, foreshore only, Waharau North.
