Definitions

Entire: used for a dog that has not been neutured/sprayed.

De-Sexed: a dog that has been nuetered or spayed. If you dog has been neutered or spayed since you last registered it please provide a veterinary certificate, receipt or a signed Statutory declaration.

Dog Owner Licence If you have gained your Dog Owner Licence you are entitled to a lower fee. For information on how to obtain your Dog Owner Licence view the 'Dog Owner Licence' page in this section or call us (09) 237 1300 $50.00 Entire

Working Dog
A 'Working Dog' is any dog kept for the purpose of herding or driving stock and living on a prperty of over 4 hectares in area and zoned Rural

Station Working Dog
A 'Working Dog' kept on a property over 20 hectares in area

Seeing/Hearing Dogs
Guide Dogs need to registered with Guide Dog Services:

Dangerous Dog 150% of normal fee
Penalty
A $20.00 penalty per dog is applied to everyone who pays after the penalty date of 1 August except when you own a Desexed Dog and have a Dog Owner Licence when the penalty fee is $17.00 and when you own a Station Dog when the penalty fee is $13.00.
All Fees include GST  

What your fees pay for:

  • an educational programme
  • a dog pound facility which includes car, feeding, release or destruction of stray dogs
  • general advice on dog care
  • maintenance of a computerised dog register
  • propoerty visits
  • adoption programme
  • a lost and found register for missing animals
  • patrols of public places to ensure public safety
  • 24 hour call out service

Working and Station Dogs: Please note the definitions apply to working and station dogs, are for registration purposes only and refer to properties zoned rural in the district plan.
As defined by the ‘working dog’ definition under section 2 of the dog control act 1996 which includes any dog kept solely or principally for the purpose of herding or driving stock and located, housed and registered as being

  • on a property of over four hectares may be a working dog.
  • on a property of over 20 hectares may be a station dog.
