Off road motorbikes make a characteristic sound and people tend to have very different reactions to it. Chances are you will have one of two reactions – either you’ll wish it was you racing around and having fun, or you’ll think “not that annoying noise again!” Noise from off road motorbikes would be one of the most frequent sources of complaint Council receives from people living in rural areas.
You might purchase a rural property so that you can enjoy riding an off road bike. However your neighbours might purchase their rural properties so that they can enjoy the peace and quiet that the countryside offers. There is a clear conflict between these two aspirations and residents then look to Council to resolve the conflict.
Because of this Council has put together an information pamphlet about the role of Council in finding a way forward for those wanting to enjoy riding off road motorbikes. You can pick up this pamphlet at any Council office or download it here:
There are also those who use off road motorbikes for legitimate farming purposes and Council would like to assure you that this is permissible under the District Plan and not targeted by the pamphlet.
