Auckland - 30th / 31st March 2010
The Agrecovery Rural Recycling programme will be holding collections for unwanted or expired agrichemicals in the Auckland region on 30th and 31st March 2010.
The Agrecovery Chemicals programme replaces the retraction and recovery programmes previously delivered by regional and local councils in these areas.
Chemicals need to be booked for collection by 25th March, so freephone 0800 247 326 or click here to book online.

The Agrecovery Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable trust, has been established to facilitate the recycling of agrichemical plastic containers in the rural sector.
Agrecovery collection sites are now in place across the country and all chemical companies supporting the scheme will in time have Agrecovery branding on their products so growers know which products are eligible to be accepted for recycling.

In the Franklin District the collection point is Horticentre, Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
The Agrecovery Foundation, which pays all the costs to operate the programme, is funded by a small levy on every litre or kilogram of eligible product. The levy is collected by the supporting agrichemical companies and passed on to the foundation.
Agrecovery collection sites are open regularly at locations throughout the country but most farmers and growers already involved with the scheme say it is just as easy to simply stockpile containers and return them once or twice a year.
The programme has been made very simple and that is the key. Also, because a compliance certificate is issued when you return containers, it is a very easy way for growers to prove they are improving environmental performance which is increasingly required to meet industry and market standards.
The plastic is picked up from the collection sites nationwide by mobile processing trucks which shred the containers into small pieces. The plastic is then supplied to Astron Plastics, a New Zealand based plastics recycler, which processes the material into products including underground drainage pipe and hazard identification sheets to cover electrical cable.
Franklin District Council encourages farmers and growers to use the Agrecovery service. Please visit their website: www.agrecovery.co.nz for more information.
Agpac Recycling
Historically wrap from silage and haybales has been considered difficult due to high levels of contaminants on the plastic. Agpac's product stewardship scheme uses a bin and liner system to store the bale wrap, reducing ground contamination and allowing simple pick-up.
