Litter
Franklin is beautiful – litter is not. Franklin District Council spends a lot of your money cleaning up someone else’s thoughtless littering, so its time to tell them to be a tidy Kiwi.
Littering is a major issue for the Auckland region. It makes our beautiful streets, parks and beaches look bad, costs ratepayers millions of dollars every year and pollutes waterways.
Franklin District Council is hoping every resident will soon recognise the ‘be a Tidy Kiwi’ brand and take on board its message. The logo is around the district on Council contactor’s vehicles. Whether relaxing in a park or shopping in a town centre we want residents to remember to put litter in the bin where it belongs!
How you can reduce litter
We want you, your family and friends to pledge to Be Tidy Kiwis. It’s as simple as making sure you put all your rubbish in the bin and encouraging others to do the same. You can make a pledge to set an example to others of how they too can be a tidy Kiwi at www.beatidykiwi.org.nz/pledge.aspx
Council supports Clean up NZ week run each year by the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Trust. Over 250,000 Tidy Kiwi's participated in last years Clean Up Week. So get a group together for the 2010 Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week September 17 - 24 2010. Online registrations for schools, community groups and individuals will be available from www.knzb.org.nz later in the year.
Become a Keep New Zealand Beautiful volunteer - simply register your details at www.knzb.org.nz and you could be helping to keep Franklin clean and green.
Rubbish Dumping
Dumped rubbish along our roads and in our parks and public spaces is both an eyesore and a health and safety risk. Contact our Customer Services Team on 09 2371300 to report any illegally dumped rubbish. To help us to get it cleaned up as soon as possible, please provide us with as much of the following information as you can including -
• The exact location of the rubbish
• The type of rubbish it is
• How much there is (.i.e. about 2 bags)
• Whether it is a heath hazard (is it spilt? Does it smell?)

Please help us to stop the offenders
