Franklin District Council appointed Transpacific Industries Group February 2008 to help us maintain the public stormwater networks across the District. They will proactively inspect the stormwater network and if they find that silt, debris, tree roots or other blockages are in the pipes and drains they will clear it, in order to make sure that when the rains do come the public system is ready!
The contract that Transpacific has with Council will run for three to five years and is worth approximately one million dollars a year. They bring with them new technology, for example specialist CCTV cameras that are able to negotiate stormwater pipes whether big or small and very powerful water blasting equipment to flush blockages out of the pipes.
If you are experiencing any localised flooding, or have any concerns about stormwater, remember to call Franklin District Council, day or night, on 09 237 1300.
We will let Transpacific know and we expect them to respond within two to six hours to evaluate the situation.
Remember – you are our eyes in the community, we often only know about problems when you tell us, so please do call. Together with your support, Transpacific and Franklin District Council aim to minimise the risk of flood damage to your property and protect your health through the efficient and effective management of stormwater in the District.
Overland Flowpaths
An overland flowpath is the route taken by stormwater runoff as it flows overland making its way downhill. It follows the path of least resistance to an open drain, stormwater system, stream, pond, wetland or the sea.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining overland flow paths on their property. They need to ensure that any overland flow path on their property is unobstructed and that there are no structures such as garages, fences, retaining walls and landscaping works built in the way of an overland flow path. For more information on overland flow paths, view the brochure below.
