Council Requests Info on Goat Killers Print

9 February 2009

Franklin District Council is asking for the public’s help following the killing of two goats in Franklin on Saturday night.

The goats, in two separate incidents, were dragged to death behind vehicles after being stolen from their roadside tetherings.

One goat was stolen from Morley Road and found on Waitangi Falls Road, Glenbrook (around 5kms away) and the other stolen from Taurangaruru Road and found on Kohekohe Kariotahi Road (around 4kms away).

Franklin District Council GM Environmental Services James Jefferson says, “This is a horrific crime, and the offenders must be stopped before they do this again. We urge the public to come forward to Council with any information on this atrocity so we can pass it on to Police and the SPCA to act upon.”

“We urge goat owners to keep an eye on their goats and other animals, and ensure they are secured as much as possible.”

Information can be given to Franklin District Council on 2371300 or DSS Animal Management on 0800 279 509.
