Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day for Waiuku Print

18 June 2009

Franklin District Council is holding a free drop-off day for household hazardous waste in Waiuku on Saturday 27 June 2009. The HazMobile will be parked at the Resource Recovery Centre, Hosking Place, 10am – 2pm.
The HazMobile is a free service for householders who want to dispose of their unwanted hazardous materials safely and responsibly. Anything that is flammable, corrosive, toxic, reacts with other materials or can pollute the environment is a hazardous material – and a household hazardous waste if it is no longer needed or wanted.
The HazMobile will collect:
• Solvents and paint strippers
• Glues, wood preservatives, garden chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers
• Petrol, oil and other car products
• Toilet and drain cleaners, kitchen and oven cleaners
• Pool chemicals, bleach and disinfectants, car batteries, rechargable batteries
• Furniture and shoe polish, fluorescent tubes, gas cylinders
• Small quantities of agricultural chemicals will be accepted. For large quantities please contact Nigel Birse on 2371300.

The HazMobile will not collect:
• Non-hazardous waste such as tires, broken glass
• Medical Waste
• Ammunition
• Electronic waste such as mobile phones, computers, televisions
• Paint: Resene will accept their own paints back at no charge, and other brands for only a small price, so that’s the perfect way to get rid of them. Alternatively you can mix the paint with sand to dry it out and then put it safely in the rubbish.

The District’s main hazardous waste collection event will be held, as normal, in Pukekohe in October.
