Council, at its meeting on 26th June 2008, approved the establishment of a new levy for the Hunua Fire Force. This is a targeted rate of $14.06 which will be added to the annual rates for properties within the fire force area to assist with funding the Hunua Rural Fire Force station upgrade. If you are in the affected areas you should have received a letter. To check the affected area against your property, download the following map of the Hunua Fire deployment area, which is set by the New Zealand Fire Service:
The Hunua Rural Fire Force has raised $250,000 in recent years to construct its fire station to the present stage. Additional funds are needed to complete the interior fitting and the exterior concreting, sealing and landscaping, costing approximately $74,000. Council will provide interest free loans to the Fire Force in the next few years to be repaid by way of the targeted rate.
A targeted rate works on the basis that each dwelling within the Hunua fire force area will pay an amount per dwelling per annum. The amount mentioned above is per dwelling per annum for a period of 7 years.
