Proposed Food Hygiene Bylaw Print

The proposed Food Hygiene Bylaw has been developed by Council in response to non-compliance by certain food premises in the District with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

Under the proposed Bylaw, notice may be served by an Environmental Health Officer on any food premises where food may be exposed to contamination. The notice may prescribe remedial action, to stop using, clean or fix specific equipment, remove the conditions which led to the contamination and in some circumstances, require that the food premises is closed for a period of time.

A grading certificate is issued to food premises reflecting the grade allocated by the Environmental Health Officer following an annual inspection prior to annual registration. The grades are A, B, D and E, with category A premises having fewer than five faults and no critical or repeat faults, and category E premises having one or more critical faults.
