Proposed Livestock on Roads Bylaw Print

The proposed Livestock on Roads Bylaw is made under the Local Government Act 2002 and the Transport Act 1962. It addresses issues raised with Council over safety and pollution issues caused by the movement of livestock on roads.

The proposed Bylaw includes rules on the movement of stock across and along a road (both short and long distances), the movement of stock in a safe manner, prevention of damage to the road and the requirement to remove effluent left on roads after stock have been moved.

Any person moving livestock on a road not prohibited in the Bylaw but not complying with all the relevant conditions requires a Permit issued by Council.
