Policy on Dogs Print

Sections 3(c)(i) and 4(f) on the policy below come into place from 1st October 2007.  These sections have been changed to reflect the following:  

  • No more multidog permits will be granted for any dog classified as dangerous or menacing by deed or breed in accordance with the Dog Control Act 1996.
  • All dogs classified as Menacing by deed or breed as from 1st October will be required to be neutered within one month of receiving the classification.
  • Multidog permit applicants must obtain a dog owner licence before Council will consider issuing the multidog permit.

 

Franklin District Council's Dog Policy has been prepared according to the requirements of the Dog Control Act 1996. Through the Policy Council is wishing to ensure there is a balance between the rights of dog owners and the safety of the general public.
