Heritage Strategy Print

Whether its buildings, trees, archaeological sites, landscapes or stories Franklin is a place rich in heritage values.

The Heritage Strategy has gone beyond the conventional regulatory approach to heritage management to identify opportunities for the whole community to have a hand in heritage management and promotion.

The strategy was adopted by Council in October 2008 in consultation with the Franklin community.

The identification of heritage items within our district remains a priority (regardless of the change to the governance structure for Franklin District). A working party was established in early 2009 to prioritise actions from the Heritage Strategy. The first priority is to develop a framework to identify our heritage items in Franklin and catalogue these with assistance from the general public and data holders such as the ARC.

We are asking for your help. If you know of an Historic Building, structure, object, tree or botanical site in Franklin which should be recorded please fill out the questionaire and return to Franklin's Libraries, Council Offices or Museums.
