The Integrated Transport Strategy co-ordinates Council’s transport policies with the region’s and Council’s other strategies, including the District Growth Strategy. The aim of the Transport Strategy is to ensure that Franklin’s predicted growth can be managed by the transport network, there is public transport choice, and funding is available for safety initiatives and other transport options such as walking and cycling programmes.
The strategy includes six action plans which address arterial corridors, safety issues, walking and cycling, parking, freight movement and public transport. The action plans set priorities, such as continuing to upgrade walking and cycling infrastructure, ensuring that the freight network is located only on main routes and that there is enough parking and adequate signage in Franklin’s towns. Another important focus is on the continued lobbying required to provide community and local passenger transport services for the district.
Copies of the Integrated Transport Strategy can be collected at Franklin District libraries in Pukekohe, Tuakau and Waiuku and at Franklin District Council offices in Pukekohe and Waiuku. It can also be downloaded from here.
