Urban Residential Design Guide Print

Franklin is likely to grow a lot in the coming decades. In the next 5 years to 2013 more than 10,000 more people are projected to live here than today. That’s around 4,000 new houses alone!

More and more of us are choosing to live the urban life too. Our District Growth Strategy sets out a target that by 2051 almost 90% of us will live in an urban area.  This all means that residential developments, their quality, and their ability to let residents and visitors alike enjoy healthy, safe lifestyles will become more important to our continued wellbeing.

This draft guideline addresses urban residential development - from detached housing on sites around 2,000sqm to medium density housing on sites around 200sqm including terraced housing. It does not address rural / lifestyle housing nor high density apartments.

It has been put together to be easily usable by anyone with an interest in the planning and design of urban residential developments. This includes members of the public, technical specialists, and where appropriate decision makers.
