August 2007 - Franklin District Growth Strategy Released. Print

At a Council Meeting on Thursday 23 August Franklin District Council released the Franklin District Growth Strategy 2051.

Through the development of the Franklin District Growth Strategy Pokeno is expected to grow and be a sizable, attractive and functional village.

Council’s District Planning Manager, David Pentz said “it is really exciting to get this document released at last. The District Growth Strategy is a living document that captures the work of the past and puts some lines on the map for the short and long term future, which will be regularly monitored and reviewed. It provides clear direction for the development of this district and delivers Council’s vision of a country lifestyle in harmony with our environment.”

The District Growth Strategy has been a key project for our Mayor and Councillors during this their first three year term. Mayor, Mark Ball commented “Council’s of the past had done a great deal of work with the community to identify what you wanted for this district. Our goal was to consolidate this work and to produce a document that would enable the district to grow in a planned and sustainable way. I am confident that the District Growth Strategy will now provide some clarity to all sectors of our community.”

Councillor, Des Morrison, Chair of Council’s Strategy and Policy Committee said “this work is critical to our future and also our linkage to regional planning initiatives like the Auckland Sustainability Framework and the Regional Growth Strategy. I personally consider this document our major achievement of the current term of Council.”
