For several years the need to improve traffic flows from the east of Pukekohe has been recognised with traffic modelling indicating that congestion on Manukau Road, Stadium Drive and East Street would be a serious issue by 2021.
Several projects were included in the Land Transport Asset Management Plan which supported the Franklin District Council Community Plan 2006-2016. These had a capital value of $5.25M. Together these projects were aimed at creating a mini Pukekohe East Arterial project and to protect a corridor for future development. Further work on these projects combined with a peer review and further growth projections have resulted in real reservations about
the plans and recommended a modified approach. The consultant’s advice was that a connection to Manukau Road at Nelson Street would provide the best option to meet the long-term needs for traffic management in Pukekohe and a more effective Pukekohe East Arterial project.
What's Happening:
The Pukekohe East Arterial between Crosbie Road and Manukau Road will be undertaken within the next three to five years with the completion of the remaining route anticipated to be required before 2021.
Council is continuing with land negotiations to help make this project a reality.
