Latest News
Through Public Workshops at the end of 2006, meetings with interested parties and talking with you one-to-one we have been able to develop a concept plan for a Sports Park in Waiuku.
No concept plan will look identical to the finished site and there may be the odd change or tweak, however the concept plan shows what you can expect to see growing and developing over the next few years.
Work is still continuing on some parts of the concept. For example the possibility of the proposed Waiuku Aquatic Facility is still being fully investigated by interested local residents.
Council also has to finalise the location of the proposed connector road and the ways in which the stormwater in the proposed future residential areas surrounding the park will be collected and treated.
Happening Now:
Franklin District Council is currently developing memorandum of understandings with the other land owners (Waiuku College and the Waiuku Rugby Club) to ensure a shared vision and way forward into the future.
Happening Soon:
Landscaping work is expected to start before July 2008.
Have We Got It Right?
One of the comments at the public workshops was that the Sports Park must provide what the public wants. Have we done this? Only you can tell us that and we encourage you to continue to give us your thoughts and feedback by contacting Franklin District Council Parks Officer, Greg Lowe (details below).
However, we do know what you have told us so far, including what people said when they visited the display of the draft concept plan in August. The feedback at this time, and through our meetings with interested parties, has been overwhelmingly positive.
Where To From Here?
All the partners working together on this project are enthusiastic and can’t wait to get started! The green box to the left outlines the next steps.
This display will stay up for a few months. As the park develops we will keep you informed on any changes and continue to welcome your involvement.

Background
Having a large parcel of land in such a key location doesn’t happen very often. This land has the potential for many different types of recreation and open space so it's important to Council to understand what the community want there.
All feedback from the public will help shape the concept plan for the site. The project is called the “Waiuku Sports Park Development” and will contribute to the development of Franklin’s sporting, recreational and cultural lifestyle.
Franklin District Council consultants have already begun discussing the project with groups within Waiuku and people are eager to be part of this unique opportunity.
Council is committed to developing this site with the residents of Waiuku. Together we can come up with a great concept that will build on the work of the Waiuku town centre plan and contribute to making Waiuku a great place to live and play.
