Your Council
Print

Our Mayor and Councillors are your elected representatives and they govern the affairs of the District on behalf of the community.

The Mayor and Councillors govern in a very public manner and you are welcome to attend Council, Committee and Community Board meetings. You will be able to learn more about the meetings through visiting the pages of this section. You will also be able to see what has, or will be, talked about at the meetings through downloading the meeting minutes and agendas.

Supporting the Mayor and Councillors are Council Officers. Officers provide advice to the Council and to the public. You can learn more about the organisation and responsibilities of Council Staff by visiting the page "Council staff: organisation and responsibilities."

Community Plans and Annual Plans

Every three years Council goes through a major planning process with a 10-year forecast. This cumulates in the adoption of the Community Plan. For the years between Community Plan's, Council produces an Annual Plan. You can learn more about the Community Plan and Annual Plan process, and download our lastest Council Community Plan 2006 - 2016 by visiting the "Community Plans" section of this website.

Having Your say

During each year Council will ask for community comment on a variety of issues or proposals. This consultation is an important way for Council to gain an understanding of your thoughts and opinions on a particular issue or proposal. Council really wants you to have your say at these times (or any other when you have a concern or idea) and will consider every opinion when making their decisions.
